Wassell Academy Programs

Our Current Academic Programs

At the WASSELL ACADEMY, our students are placed into different programs based upon age and grade level. These programs include the Preschool program. Our Primary program is for K-2 grade levels. Our Secondary program encompasses the older grades while still catering to each child's individual needs.

  • Our 4 year-old Preschool Program goes from 9:30-11:30. Our Preschool Program is taught by combining multi-sensory lessons and hands on manipulatives for active learning when appropriate. Each child is taught basic life skills such as: socialization, how to respect others, and manners. They are also challenged academically by the introduction of the alphabet and number recognition as well as beginning to write their own names and learning to recite the Pledge Of Allegiance. The use of the Spanish language is also introduced in our Preschool Program.
  • Our Primary Program goes from 8:45-3:30. It is designed to accelerate the learning taught in our Preschool Program. Students will focus on charachter values such demonstrating self discipline, following directions, working independently, developing moral/ethical principles and values, getting along with others, and acceting responsiblility and consequences. To begin the process of reading, Kindergarteners will learn to identify vowels, rhyming words, and initial, medial, and final consonant sounds. Other Kindergarten academics include: number recognition from 1-100, number sequence, basic addition and subtraction, penmanship, and other various aspects of science and history. Older Primary students will begin to focus on more challenging academics. These include spelling, column addition, four digit addition with carrying(regrouping), subtraction with borrowing(regrouping), introduction to multiplication/division,recognizing compound words, introduction to cursive writing, and advanced science and history subjects. Primary students will also be challenged with additional learning such as: sign language, music, and a greater emphasis on the Spanish language. Bible lessons are taught daily to strengthen the students understanding of Christian principles including Bible verses and prayer. Homework will be given on a weekly basis.
  • Our Secondary Program goes from 8:45-3:30. Our Secondary Program is taught in a multi-age classroom giving the students an opportunity for peer tutoring and the opportunity to develop lasting friendships. This program is the most individualized due to the wide range of ages and academic skills. The students in the classroom focus mainly on their individualized learning while still utilizing group subjects such as: Spanish, Music, Physical Education, and Art. Students within the same academic level will be taught core subjects in small group format. They will continue to be given a spelling/vocabulary list each week to improve their language skills. Homework is also given on a weekly/daily basis. A greater emphasis is placed on Christian principles in the Secondary Program.
